Taunton’s Heritage Trail sets out from the Tourist Information Centre and takes you on either a self-guided walk around the town steered by a collection of brass plaques, or alternatively you can take a guide with you to recount the full history of the area in all its glory
Taunton Castle plays home to the Somerset County Museum, housing a collection of artefacts relating to the history of the region for visitors wanting to find out about the area.
For over 200 years the Sheppy family have been making cider in the West Country, their hard efforts earning them no less than 200 awards and 2 gold medals. A trip to Sheppy’s Cider Centre at Bradford-on-Tone, will show you how and where the cider is made, you can even try before you buy at their shop and licensed tearoom.
For those of you who appreciate both architecture and gardens alike, take a look at Hatch Court in Hatch Beauchamp. This elegant Bath Stone Palladian mansion, built in 1750, is set in stunning parkland with a colourful array of plants and trees.
The Willows and Wetlands Visitor Centre at Stoke St Gregory is an internationally recognised wetland area. Its Levels and Moors Exhibition details the flora and fauna that can be found in the area while the Basketware Museum explains the history and importance of willow. The centre’s shop also sells souvenir items made from its own willow.
